Test your own visibility in ten minutes

Ask the engines yourself, the way a customer would. What you find tells you where to push.

3 min read

We run this test every month for you, but doing it yourself once is worth the ten minutes — it changes how you think about the work.

Ask the question a customer would ask

Open ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude in four tabs. Ask each the same thing, phrased the way a person actually speaks: "Who's the best [your trade] in [your city]?" Don't use your business name. You're not checking whether the engine knows you exist, you're checking whether it recommends you unprompted.

Write down who it names

You'll usually get three to five businesses. Note them. Those are your real competitors for AI traffic, and they may not be the ones you think about day to day — often they're the businesses with the tidiest listings rather than the best work.

Ask a second, more specific question

Try one with a qualifier: "emergency", "accepting new patients", "open Sunday", "free quote". Engines answer these differently, and you may appear for one and not another. That tells you exactly which page to write next.

Then ask directly

Finally, ask "What do you know about [your business name]?" If the answer is thin, wrong, or confuses you with another business, that's a data problem — and it's fixable. If it's accurate but you still weren't recommended, that's a visibility problem, which is what the monthly work is for.

Do this again in ninety days. The difference is the point.
